Title: The Lost City Date: July 26, 2013
Source: The author of this article, a.k.a. the speaker, has interviewed some of the men and women archaeologists who are helping with the discovery of the ancient Native American city of Werowocomoco.
Occasion: The city of Werowocomoco was the home of Native American chief Powhatan. Chief Powhatan was the father of Pocahontas. The discovery of this city means that we might have found the place where Pocahontas once lived. If she was real at one point and actually did save a young Englishman's life, it would have happened here. Not only is this place real, but it is a major archaeological find. This Native American city would have been like our Washington D.C. This means that this place was the major city of the empire that Powhatan ruled.
Audience: The audience could be from the people who love to read about archaeology to the people who have watched the Disney movie Pocahontas as a child. This could add to another great story about a historical site uncovered and/or a link to most of our childhoods. It makes you wonder if the movie did actually happen. Sure, some things are exaggerated, but it still makes readers feel something as they read about something they have heard of before or something linked to their past.
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to inform the readers about the major Native American empire Werowocomoco that has been discovered by archaeologist and is still being discovered. The article informs us about what the empire is, why it is so important, and what it's linked to.
Subject: Archaeologist found the heart of a major Native American empire that was said to be ruled by Powhatan, the father of Pocahontas. This empire contained 30 political divisions and had a population of 15,000 to 20,000 people. This fact alone gives the readers a sense of just how big of a deal this discovery is. Basically, a Native American Washington D.C. was found along with the setting of a famous animated movie. The fact that the setting of the movie is real may mean that some events of the movie could have happened. Other than that, this empire was huge. This could be the beginning of a huge discovery.
Tone: The author mostly quotes the words of the archaeologists. The only time the author actually 'says' something is when they're telling about what the city was and what is the reason that this is a major discovery. The author is more informative about than subject and does not state their opinion and doesn't imply what they think about the find. Since most of the article is quotes and facts, the author probably tried to keep their opinion subtle. Therefore, the author is more informative.

They also say this for other fast-paced TV shows. Some people disagree with this, saying SpongeBob is targeted for children ages 6 and older, not 4-year-old preschoolers.
Tone: I believe the tone of this article would be both serious and informative because it's a serious issue for both people who agree with this and don't, and its informative on why parents may disapprove of SpongeBob.

Title: The Lost City
Date: July 26, 2013
